This coming May 2013, Yukiko Koide Presents will host a solo show by an artist of rare gift, Naoyo Fukuda.

Naoyo Fukuda (born 1967) takes books and stationery as her materials, and by laboriously, even obsessively applying hand embroidery and hole-piecing, creates expressions of diverse flickering meditations upon “reading” and “writing.” The show will comprise some 20 pieces, both retracing her major works thus far — “The Winged,” “From a Mossy Path to a Snowy Hollow,” “The Spirit of Words,” “Pilgrimage / Mail” — as well as fascinating new works of drawing and collage. I hope this small exhibition, affording a brush with the past to unlock the doors of the present, may give you a sense of her mysterious palindromic world.
