Henry Darger (1829-1973) spent the last 40 years of his life living in a rented room in Chicago, where he worked on "The Story of the Vivian Girls, in What is known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinian, Caused by the child slave Rebellion", his posthumously-discovered fantasy manuscript which extends over 15,0000 pages. This room was the den and atelier of the unparalleled genius as well as the entrance to the Realms of the Unreal, where the "Vivian Girls" and exotic creatures like "Blengins" cohabited. 25 years after his death, photographer Keizo Kitajima captured the final moments of Henry Darger's room before the demolition of the apartment.
