"Approach everything rationally, and you become harsh. Pole along in the stream of emotions, and you will be swept away by the current. Give free rein to your desires, and you become uncomfortably confined. It is not a very agreeable place to live, this world of ours. " (Translation by Alan Turney) Souseki's famous quote continue to resonate with many 100 years later, confirming that we still live in the same "complex" world. Kyoko Okubo tells a similar story through a narrative of a bumblebee traveling the world from flower to flower in search of honey. Although the curious tale told by small figures of girls and animals was inspired from Kyoko Okubo's own experience, it relates to young women today who struggle to live in the society, strained by the concept of "freedom". The exhibit will show 8 of Kyoko Okubo's new dolls.
